This region is one of sunniest and driest area of the country. Marlborough is marked by diurnal temperature variations which help its grapes remaining fresh, fruit, crisp and herbaceous characters. Moderate low fertility with stony loams on top. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are the most planted grapes followed by Pinot Noir and Riesling.
